Your Dry Cleaner Could Be Making You Sick

Did you know...that you can be exposed to perchloroethylene when you bring clothes home from the drycleaners?

Perchloroethylene, is a manufactured chemical used for dry cleaning and metal degreasing. Exposure to very high concentrations of perchloroethylene can cause dizziness, headaches, sleepiness, confusion, nausea, difficulty in speaking and walking, unconsciousness, and death. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has determined that perchloroethylene may reasonably be anticipated to be a carcinogen. Perchloroethylene has been shown to cause liver tumors in mice and kidney tumors in male rats. (Source: Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry)

You can limit toxins in your home and on your body by steaming them with a Jiffy® Steamer instead of taking your garments to a dry cleaner.  Steaming is a way to remove wrinkles, kill germs & freshen your fabrics without harsh chemicals or toxins.  Be sure to read your care labels.

Have a healthy closet.  Use your Jiffy® Steamer.

I'll have to ask the dry cleaners in Provo if they use this. I don't go there too often, but best not to take chances!
