Are your clothes making you sick?
Did you know...that you can be exposed to perchloroethylene when you bring clothes home from the drycleaners?
Perchloroethylene, is a manufactured chemical used for dry cleaning and metal degreasing. Exposure to very high concentrations of perchloroethylene can cause dizziness, headaches, sleepiness, confusion, nausea, difficulty in speaking and walking, unconsciousness, and death. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has determined that perchloroethylene may reasonably be anticipated to be a carcinogen. Perchloroethylene has been shown to cause liver tumors in mice and kidney tumors in male rats. (Source: Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry)
